Safety is the eternal theme of the railway transportation. With the development of high-speed and heavy-haul railway, it is very important to monitor the running railway wagons and grasp their safe condition in time. Railway wagons which sort and group frequently without power supply and communication cables, propose a higher demand on wireless monitoring technology. Normal ground equipment monitoring mode which needs a large scale of track-side networking construction, is difficult to meet the requirements of high monitoring precision, more monitoring' parameters and less equipment cost. In recent years, the emerging technology of Internet of Things(IOT) on the strength of its many advantages, win a place in the fields of smart home, smart grid, intelligent agriculture,intelligent transportation, etc. The application of IOT technology to railway wagon will certainly promote the development of railway transportation safety.On the demand of applications in railway wagon safety condition monitoring system, a kind of railway wagon monitoring system is designed based on The Internet of Things(IOT).The research and design are divided into three parts: ZigBee wireless sensor network,locomotive monitoring platform and the upper system of ground monitoring center. The ZigBee wireless sensor network which uses TI CC2530 radio-frequency chip as the core,including two kinds of network equipment: carriage node and locomotive node. As the network router, the carriage node is responsible for collecting and transmitting the carriage data such as beer temperature, smoke, temperature and humidity, and expanding the communication range of ZigBee wireless network; As the network coordinator, the locomotive node is responsible for the establishment of ZigBee network, controlling the join of carriage nodes and uploading or receiving the data from locomotive monitoring platform.In order to adapt to the environment of frequent disconnection and connection of railway wagon, the paper proposed ZigBee MAC address whitelist verification algorithm to achieve the identification while carriage nodes joining locomotive node's network.The locomotive monitoring platform is the core of the whole monitoring system, which is mainly responsible for collecting summary information uploaded from ZigBee network,and displaying all kinds of faulty information appearing in the running train by man-machine interface, so that train conductors can master the real-time running status of the whole train.The ARM+Linux technology is used to build the embedded software and hardware development environment; The locomotive monitoring software is developed based on the Qt/Embedded graphical framework, its main functions include train marshalling management, serial data receiving and processing, real-time state parameters display, GPRS data transmission, data storage and query, ZigBee network state control, etc. The upper system of ground monitoring center which facilitates the ground experts on the historical data query and fault diagnosis is developed based on the Qt TCP network communication, its main functions include GPRS data real-time receiving, processing, display and storage, etc.Finally, the whole monitoring system is tested in the laboratory. The test results show that the system achieves the good results of real-time online monitoring, with a wide range of applications in railway wagon safety monitoring industry.
