Tranditional ways of transporting earthquake data has the disadvantage of low efficiency, high cost, not rapid transporting speed. As the development of computer technology, electronic technology and mobile communication technology, especially the maturation of General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technology, the establishment of earthquake system based on GPRS can be possible.On the base of the brief introduction of characteristic and advantage of GPRS communication technology, feasibility of realizing data transfers of earthquake measuring and controlling system by GPRS network has been proved in this paper. Total frame of earthquake measuring and controlling system has also been designed. Meanwhile each part of the system including software and hardware have been analyzed ,designed ,debugged concretely.The whole system composes of two parts, subordinate machine and measurment and controlling center. Subordinate machine includes three parts: main controlling module, GPRS communication module and dater collection module(A/D transform module). Measurement and controlling center is a personal computer which has fixed IP address. The core of subordinate machine is C8051F020 singlechip of Cygnal company, which is mainly used to realized data collection and data transfers controlling.Data transfers is accomplished by GPRS network formed by SIM100GPRS of SIMCOM company. Principle and implement method of hardware circuit of subordinate machine have been introduced in detail in this paper, and embedded real time operation system withμC/OS-II as the core have been used to design software of subordinate machine, viz.μC/OS-II is planned to C8051F020 signalchip. Modularize design is used here, and software has been divided into data collection software, transfer controlling software, other assistant function software and so on. Each task has been realized by C and assemble language. Due to the use of modularize design, each task in embed real time operation system has been endowed with different PRI, so it can satisfy the system's real time demand and enhance system's flexible. Measurement and controlling center software has been accomplished by Winsock network exploiture technology in Visual C++6.0 environment.
