Since the reform and opening up,China has experienced the rapid expansion of the city under the guidance of motorization.Urban streets(roads)with vehicle traffic efficiency first,producing large city,large settlements,large road,large interchange and other forms,resulting in the loss of walking space and human vitality and other issues.In recent years,with the transformation from incremental planning to stock planning,the vigorous development of public space refinement design and the promotion of low-carbon environmental protection concept,the study for walkable city has become an important subject of planning discipline.The fundamental factors of walkable city form is the street network,pedestrian network is so differente from the road network.Now motorization is in the ascendant,but study of pedestrian cities is still in its infancy.The study of the existing pedestrian street network,especilly historically tested one,helps to reinforce the foundations.Gulangyu street network is so rare that is completely built on the walking scale,and now still continues travelling mainly by walking,and is generated by years and well preserved,at the same time has a variety of cultural connotation.Its street network has irreplaceable value in academic research.This paper takes the spatial syntax as the main analysis tool,and also the historical analysis method and the land analysis method to study Gulangyu street network generation mechanism and morphological characteristics in order to enrich the theoretical research of the walkable city street network.The main body of the article is divided into three parts.In the frist part,describing Gulangyu urban construction process and the street network generation process from the perspective of historical research,to make a basic discrimination of the main builders and the development of Gulangyu street network(Chapter 2);In the second part,select five time nodes' map to analyze the spatial form of the street network with spatial syntax segment model from the integration index,the selectivity index and the comprehensibility index.The results are compared with each other in the horizontal and vertical direction(Chapter 3).In the third part,on the basis of the study of historical construction and spatial ontology,analyzing the relationship between Gulangyu street network and mountain terrain,land use mode,building layout and crowd distribution,so as to know how Gulangyu street network and other factors affect each other,to have a more comprehensive understanding of the street network formation process and the characteristics of the street network form(Chapter 4).The conclusion of the article(Chapter 5)summarizes the historical research,spatial ontology research and related elements of Gulangyu street network.Including four aspects: Summing up the evolution law and characteristics of street network form from the point of view of street network configuration;Expounding the main elements which influence the street network of Gulangyu Islet from the aspects of construction subject,formation process and function mode;Putting forward Suggestions for future street network design from street network density and scale parameters,and the construction process,and the travel radius for walking street network;Putting forward Suggestions for Gulangyu future protection and development direction from the street network cultural connotation and scenic areas.
