The Study On The Conservation And Renewal On The Small Goose Pagoda Historical Area In Xi'an Based On Typology

Historical Area as the carrier of history and culture,reflects the continuity and development of the urban context.In the current situation that urbanization is speeding up,historical areas are in danger.On the one hand,fast urbanization brings a large amount of demolishment and construction,which formed a certain threat to the conservation of historical buildings;on the other hand,the theory for conservation and renewal is immature,either imitating historical buildings or perform brand new buildings that has no link with history is not satisfying.In fact,the pursuit for both the authentic preservation and contemporary development forms a serious challenge to urban planners.Within this background,this thesis is trying to explore the relatively mature architectural and urban design theory and experience from the perspective of typology.Through the research on the neo-rationalism typological theory that mainly emphasizes on Aldo Rossi,this thesis summarized the urban structure and "persistence" of form as the core concept of his theory.This so-called "persistence" is established through a long history of human and the“collective memory" formed through this long period of practice.Eventually it forms a basis of human collective aesthetics.In addition,this thesis also attempts to analyze the design strategy established on the“Analogous City",in order to support a kind of design method that based on the history but open to the future.Standing on the theoretical basis of architectural typology,this thesis takes the conservation and renewal on the Small Goose Pagoda historical area as the research object,tracing back to the urban structure and morphology of Tang(the period that the Small Goose Pagoda was built)Lifang and studying on it in comparison with prototypes of western grid block systems,eventually summarizes types of morphology and characteristics of layout and scale,and correspondingly the political social context.With the support of the aforementioned theory and data,under the superior planning guidance and relative laws,this thesis is trying to employ the typological methods to make a theoretical research and a conceptual design in the meantime,and trying to generate some certain associated design strategies and methods,in order to provide general methodologies on the contemporary Chinese historical area in some degree.
