Cement stabilized macadam materials are increasingly applied in roads base,and cracks will be appeared in the base of road due to reflective cracks.As the water from rain and snow immersed and vehicle load repeated on the road,the cracks width increased.The cement stabilized macadam cracks throughout the structure layer,causing pavement pumping phenomenon and pavement damage if the base strength couldn't support the load caused by vehicles.Therefore,it is important for the road durability to reduce cracks and to control crack width.In this paper,the anti cracking performances of cement stabilized macadam are investigated.The causes of cracks were analyzed,and the composition and structure of cement stabilized macadam material and gradation theory were compared,and then a composition design method of skeleton dense structure was determined.Cement stabilized macadam desinged using skeleton dense structure method was studied,and the compressive strength,split strength,rebound modulus and temperature shrinkage were tested.The results showed that comparing with the suspended dense structure,the cement stabilized macadam with skeleton dense structure had higher strength,tensile strength and stiffness and better temparature sensibility.In the practical applications,a construction measure using pre-jointcutting and geotextile could improved the cracking resistance of pavement.The crack numbers and crack width on four experimental pavements with skeleton dense structure cement stabilized macadam were tracked and recorded,and the resluts showed that the cement stabilized macadam with skeleton dense structure had a better cracking resistance than that with suspended dense structure,and the construction measure using pre-jointcutting and geotextile controlled cracks development effectively.It is showed that the anti cracking effect of cement stabilized macadam with skeleton dense structure was better under the laboratory condition and practical applications.Meanwhile,using the pre-jointcutting and geotextile could reduce cracking.
