Encouraged by the policy of "going out" strategy and the "Belt and Road" national strategy,more and more Chinesegeneral contracting enterprises have launched overseasbusiness in recent years,and the amount of overseas contract projects undertaken by the China Company is getting higher and higher.However,since the implementation mode of overseas projects are mostly EPC(Engineering Procurement Construction),the lack of design management capabilities of Chinese general contracting enterpriseshas been highlighted while they performed well in the construction of the project implementation process.Lack of design management capabilities directly lead to project delay,cost increase,lower profits,and even affect the normal performance of the contract.The detailed design is particularly important in the overseas EPC projects which are based on European and American architectural companies’ design.Because of the traditional project management mode in China,Chinese general contracting enterpriseslack the design ability and design management ability compared with the European and American companies.The influence factors such aslack of design management ability,standard differences,language differences and cultural differences,has brought many problems to the management of detail design,but also has brought a lot of risk to the implementation of the project.Reasonable design process management can effectively control the design risk and effectively coordinate the project participants to ensure the integrity of the design information flow,so as to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.So far,there are few domestic researches on the detailed design management of overseas EPC projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises which is lack of pertinence to the detailed design management,because most of them focus on the designmanagementof EPC project while the majority of research on processmanagement are for the project management or design management.Therefore,the purpose of this paper is to reorganize and optimize the current detailed design processmanagement in the overseas project based on detailed research and summary,so as to improve the detailed design management ability of overseas EPC project.Firstly,the general detailed design overall control process,civil engineering detailed design process,mechanical and electrical detailed design process,communication and coordination process and the optimization design process in the overseas project’s detailed design process management are reviewed and analyzed.Then,we analysis the shortages of the existing process based on questionnaires,therefore we improve and optimize the existing process according to the survey results.Finally,the improved process is verified through the application of the practical engineering case,which can enhance the detailed design management ability,shorten the detailed design cycle and reduce detailed design cost.By means of verification,the improved process is reasonable and is helpful for the project management.This research is of practical significance not only for the design management when China enterprises undertake overseas EPC project but also for the "going out" of Chinese architectural design enterprises.
