With the rapid development of Shenzhen, the city has entered a stage of internal renovation. The locations and sizes of the welfare-oriented housing communities built in 1980 s have given them a great advantage. After 30 years of development,a diverse population has taken up residence in these housing estates, which are slowly becoming more and more dilapidated. This has caused various problems like the single space form,a lack of certain functions for the public space, backward of landscape environment, etc. As a result, residents of these neighborhoods are eagerly seeking a solution to improve and promote their living environment.Welfare-oriented housingin Shenzhen in 1980 s was taken as representative of Multi-Residential Community in the paper and spatial morphological characteristics, spatial contradiction and conflict was presented and studied,on the basis of which space optimization strategy was proposed and make a positive attempt to create a "harmonious" Multi-Residential Community. The thesis consists of five chapters. The chapter 1 clarify Multi-Residential Community on the basis of literature review, take welfare-oriented housing in Shenzhen in 1980 s as research object and select typical cases to present.Comparisons on space form and social characteristics for Multi-Residential Community was presented base on site investigation and date analysis in chapter 2.The contradiction and conflict include spatial form, public space and the diversity of crowd was discussed in chapter 3.In chapter 4,space optimization for Multi-Residential Community was proposed from breakthrough of space limitation, public space composition to sharing space according to preliminary analysis in previous chapters. In chapter 5,Harmonious Multi-Residential Community was expected from three aspects, which are to achieve interoperability and urban integration,Multi-Residential Community harmonization and cross class sharing.
