In the context of global climate change, extreme weather and climate events such as extreme precipitation occur frequently, which have a wide impact on the natural system and the human system and have attracted increasing attention from domestic and foreign scholars.Meanwhile, with the deepening of global economic integration and the rapid development of international trade, ports and port cities are becoming increasingly crucial in the global economic and trade and regional economic development. In order to quantitatively evaluate the maximum possible range and extent of influence of extreme precipitation on the port and its transport system and even the port city and obtain accurate high-resolution flood inundation maps, this study is based on the finite-volume Godunov-type scheme incorporated with the Harten,Lax,and van Leer approximate Riemann solver with the Contact wave restored. On the high-resolution digital elevation model of the port area and its surroundings, the numerical model of the influence of precipitation on the port area and its surroundings is established with the two-dimensional shallow water equations employed as the control equations.Sequentially, the parallel computational program taking advantage of graphics processing units is used to solve the two-dimensional shallow water equations, simulate the surface runoff in the complex terrain of the port city under the extreme precipitation and visualize the flood inundation results of the port area and its collecting and distributing roads.Eventually, after the maximum water depth, submerged range, submerged length and initial submerged time are introduced as the evaluation indices, the evaluation framework of extreme precipitation on the port area and its surroundings is composed. In order to verify the credibility and operability of the model, this study takes the Liverpool port and its surrounding areas as an example. The maximum submerged water depth and the submerged range of the affected areas are obtained by using the resulting model mentioned above.Besides, the inundation maps concerning maximum depth of the study area and the inundation duration curves of the affected collecting and distributing roads are drawn and the overall impact of the flash flooding caused by extreme rainfall on the port's collecting and distributing system is summarized. The results demonstrate that pluvial flash floods may almost not have impact on the dock area. However, floods may affect port storage yards, rear service areas,port-centered industrial zones and collecting and distributing roads in varying degrees. The research results will provide theoretical support for the planning and disaster prevention and mitigation of the ports and their collecting and distributing systems.
