With the rapid development of social economy and the increasing demand of the society and economy,the traffic demand in the Yangtze River Delta region has been growing rapidly.However,in the process of the development of the road network,there are still some local areas and some major roads will appear some new development bottleneck and could not reach the state of good coordination development.In the face of the development situation of the Yangtze River Delta regional economic development and transportation development situation and status,how to reasonably integrate traffic resources,population and traffic coordinated harmonious and healthy development,to realize the regional economy and society in the Yangtze River Delta and coordinated,sustainable development has become a common concern of China's transportation planning experts,sociologists,government workers etc.Under the background that traffic accessibility has been improved since 1990,we study railway and highway two transportation modes of the Yangtze River Delta,and use the generalized additive model(GAM),from a quantitative point of view,to figure out the relationship between road traffic accessibility and population of the Yangtze River Delta region.The results show that,during the study period,are the spatial pattern highway and railway traffic is the concentric circle layer structure and Shanghai as the center to the periphery of gradually decreasing;during the research period,each stage of the accessibility with the development of traffic network and transportation service level,are different the degree of enhancement,and access time are decreasing,the first stage(1990-2003).highway accessibility increased more than that in the second stage(2003-2012);the relationship between population and road traffic and railway traffic is different,and the traffic accessibility of highway traffic have effects on population obviously,highway trafic to explain changes in the population accounted for 97.60%?86.70%?84.60%,changes in the relationship between the railway and the population is relatively weak,but with the expansion of the railway network and the improvement of the railway transportation speed and the improvement of the railway transportation service level,the relationship between the traffic accessibility and the population is gradually strengthened.
