Study On The Setting Of Straight Waiting Area Of Signal Intersection

As a node of traffic flow converging and shunting,the quality of the intersection is related to the smooth flow of the whole road network.How to manage the intersection more efficiently and optimizing signal timing to make full use of intersection space resources and improve the intersection capacity is one of the effective measures to ease traffic congestion to some extent.And the method of channelization and applicable conditions of the waiting area is proposed in this paper,which has strong theoretical value and engineering significance.The setting principle,setting conditions,channelization design and supporting facilities,and capacity of the waiting area are mainly discussed in this article.And the basic principle of the setting of the waiting area is elaborated and the setting conditions of the waiting area are put forward from the perspective of practical application.In order to make the best benefit of the straight waiting area,the canalization design of the straight waiting area is standardized,and the supporting facilities of the straight waiting area are studied,to ensure the normal operation of the straight waiting area.The use of a new facility to induce and control the waiting area is present.Next,the calculation formulas of the capacity before and after the setting of the waiting area are deduced respectively based on the principle of the setting of the waiting area,which theoretically proves that the capacity after setting the waiting area is improved.Finally,an intersection which are formed by two arterial roads is selected for instance analysis,proving the engineering practicability of setting conditions in the waiting area.The conditions analysis and program design are carried out for the setting of the waiting area.Furthermore,the microscopic simulation software vissim is applied to verify the capacity formula of this paper.Studies have shown that setting the waiting area could make full use of the internal space of the intersection,reduce the interval of green light and finally improve the capacity of the intersection to a certain extent.Setting up a straight line waiting area must meet the requirements of the straight line waiting area.In order to ensure the efficiency of the straight line waiting area,we need to standardize the design of canals and the use of supporting facilities.
