China has experienced rapid development and its power grid has been expanding enormously. The automation-level and the data scale of the power grid is rocketing, causing the operators suffer increasing difficulties when monitoring the Dispatching Automation Master Station System(DAMSS).A Power Grid Smart Fault Diagnosis and Alarm System(PGSFDAS)is designed to filter and process massive monitoring information. The result of this system can provide clear and direct alarm, and assistance to make decision, helping the dispatcher and operator of the power grid. This paper provides a design and scheme of a PGSFDAS based on multiple source of information to adapt to the trend of unifying ‘dispatch and control',‘city-level and county-level',‘main-network and distributing-network' DAMSS in China. The system provided by this paper constructs independent system platform and provides access to EMS and relay protecting system which already exist.the PGSFDAS provided by this paper can exchange real-time data, picture, model and section with other system.Using an optimized search algorithm and a malfunction diagnosis expert mechanism, this system can determine single malfunction and its associated malfunctions, and provides operating recommendations. This system also provides real-time alarm search and historic event search, and support custom updates to the expert logic. This system is tested through a simulation in Guizhou Power Grid Guiyang Electric Power Supply Bureau cooperating the Operating Smart System(OS2).The evaluation and data from the simulation showed that this system realized the real-time malfunction diagnosis and malfunction analysis. It could effectively compress huge amount of information when large scale of power grid failure occurs. This system can significantly reduce the work-load of the operators from the power grid and increase the reliability of the power grid.
