In recent years, with the rapid development of railway industry, the accelerated process of urbanization and a high concentration of the distributed traffic, the regional traffic and the transit traffic in the urban railway station area, the contradiction between supply and demand of traffic is increasingly acute.Restricted by the highly concentrated functions of old city zones, limited road resources, the outmoded and slowly-updated traffic facilities, the peoplevehicle-mixed railway station square in the old urban zones, the problem of traffic congestion has spread into the entire urban transport network, which directly leads to heavy load of regional road network, large delay in traffic operation and low travel safety factor. At present, most of the existing research of traffic organization also concentrates on three types of stations, that is,newly-built railway station, rail transit hub and large-scale comprehensive transportation hub, showing less interest in planning and construction, traffic organization for rail station square in old city zones.Only few research, most of which lacked analysis of the traffic characteristics and common traffic problems of the square in front of the station in the old city railway station, ignoring the quantitative evaluation of the effect of the organization scheme,a relatively complete method of traffic organization has not yet been formed with universal guiding value. Thus, this paper focuses on the railway station square in old urban districts as the research object, based on previous studies, attempts to summarize a relatively complete and applicable methods of traffic organization for the square in front of the railway station in the old city area.Firstly, this paper clarifies the basic characteristics and traffic characteristics of the railway station square in old city zones, selects 15 old urban railway stations in China to conduct field research, researches and analyzes the current characteristics and the common traffic problems at the current stage from the four aspects of passenger flow, traffic patterns roads and ancillary facilities,a systematic research method is formed, and the target and task are clearly defined for the design of a relatively universal transportation organization method system.Secondly, the routes of traffic organization in the old town railway station square are clarified, the work flow of traffic optimization organization and the analysis steps of traffic demand forecasting is given. Moreover, this paper expounds the specific traffic organization method of each traffic element in the railway station square in old urban districts from the aspects of static traffic organization, dynamic traffic organization, operation organization design and traffic organization design of subsidiary facilities,it also establishes the shortest transfer waiting time operation organization model for the main distribution mode of transportation.Thirdly, the thesis presents a simulation evaluation method of the traffic organization scheme based on Vissim, the paper establishes an evaluation index system and uses matter element analysis to evaluate the traffic organization scheme for the square in front of the railway station in the old city area.At the end,in order to test the feasibility of the traffic organization method proposed in this paper, taking the square area of Mianyang Railway Station as a case study. The analysis results verify the feasibility and practical value of the traffic organization method in the railway station square of the old urban districts, the research results of this paper have improved and supplemented the optimization design theory of urban traffic organization.
