Contrast In Observation Of Tacrolimus And RhEGF In Erosive Oral Lichen Planus Treatment

Background and ObjectiveOral lichen planus(OLP)is a long-standing,inflammatory disease with an unknown cause.Mostly affecting the skin and the mucous membrane.Erosive OLP has serious effects on the patient 's life because it frequently presents with pain which usually interferes with patient's sleeping,eating,speaking and other daily activities.Several documented studies have shown that tacrolimus:can be used,is safe and efficient in treating erosive OLP.rhEGF has epidermal growth factor(EGF)which regulate cell propagation,migration and differentiation leading to an intact basement membrane.It also inhibits T-cell proliferation.The aim of this study is to contrast the clinical effectiveness of tacrolimus and recombinant human epidermal growth factor(rhEGF)gel in the treatment of erosive oral lichen planus.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted at Outpatient department of Oral Medicine of First Affiliated hospital of Dalian Medical University.Thirty(30)participants clinically diagnosed with erosive oral lichen planus by an oral medicine physician,were randomly assigned to three groups:group A(n=10)used topical tacrolimus and total glucosides of paeony(TGP);group B(n=10)used topical rhEGF gel and TGP and;group C or control group(n=10)used chlorhexidine mouthwash and TGP.Patients came to the hospital monthly to check their pain,erosive and lesion size changes for three months.Assessments were done monthly during treatment for three months.Numeric pain rating scale was used to measure pain severity.Erosive and lesion size changes were evaluated using a four-point scale.ResultsThe 30 patients enrolled in this study,63%were females and 37%males.The median age was 51.In three months,there was no difference in pain reduction between group A and group B.There was a difference in pain reduction between group A and group C.There was a difference in pain reduction between group B and group C.In three months,there was no difference in erosive and lesion size changes between group A and group B.There was a difference in erosive and lesion size changes between group A and group C.There was a difference in erosive and lesion size changes between group B and group C.ConclusionIn 3 months,tacrolimus and rhEGF showed reduction in pain,erosive and lesion size changes;Tacrolimus and rhEGF do not have a difference in pain reduction,erosive and lesion size changes.
