Nowadays, it is widely accepted that in the field of teaching Chinese to speakersof other countries, vocabulary teaching method has always been in the focus ofteaching procedure, but how to achieve significant teaching result in the teachingprocedure is a thought-provoking question. In this paper, the author explores by usinggame teaching method to teach Chinese vocabulary for the purpose of achievingbetter teaching result and enhancing overseas learners’ interest about Chinese.According to author’s teaching practice in Indonesia, the author had found thatusing game teaching method to teach vocabulary can fully increase overseas students’interest and teaching result, providing happiness and pleasure at the same time. Firstof all, this paper made an investigation into the past and current research status on thegame teaching method which provides theoretical foundation for the method ofteaching vocabulary by using games. Secondly, this paper pointed out that among allcommon games used for teaching vocabulary, there are a variety of categories, such asrole-playing games, games for performing, games for acting and competitive games.These games were endowed with many new pleasurably experiencing characteristics.Next, based on the necessity of applying game teaching method to teach vocabulary,author proposes a series of strategies and procedures for how to implement thisteaching method. Two corresponding teaching cases were thus presented. On the basisof above two teaching cases, author analyzed and concluded many problems existedin the teaching process, which were reflected in the teaching procedure, the content ofvocabulary itself and learners, etc.Finally, author got a closer look at how much students felt satisfied during theteaching procedure and how effective this teaching method was by carrying outstatistical analysis, surveys and interviews with students. Currently, game teachingmethod used to teach vocabulary had got more and more attention. In order to havebetter teaching result and solve most problems existed in the teaching process, thoseteachers who teach Chinese to overseas students should be fully aware of its roles, useproper teaching strategies and know more relevant teaching principles.
