In the early morning of November 10,1918, Liang Ji ended his life by drowning. It was just a kind of implementation since he had had suicidal thoughts from 1911. In seven years, these thoughts had ups and downs with time. Roughly speaking,1914 and 1918 were the climax of his suicidal thoughts. In the other years, however, they have been shelved due to changes in the current situation, and some other reasons.Just as the ripples stirred by Liang Ji’s body, his death attracted the attention of public opinion too. This case had became a platform for exchange of ideas. The traditional scholars, the new intellectual groups influenced by Western culture and sharing different ideas, and even the people who expressed his views when the power shifted from Qing dynasty to Republic of China, or from Kuomintang to Communist Party of China. Overall, the views of these three groups, revealed three different dimensions that emphasizing Tsunatsune Norm, valuing science and humanities, turning to politics and doctrine.Invaded by Western forces, China was brought into serious national crises. This situation tortured every individual who concerned national destiny. No matter how difference their answer was, they were facing the same problem indeed. In the case of Liang Ji’s suicide, the three different dimensions were just different answers about Chinese outway given by three groups above. In other words, this case was a microcosm and profile of modern Chinese people’s struggle. Although the final direction of history was unique, the option was diverse ever; Despite the choice and destiny of the elder were different, the enthusiasm when they were seeking for Chinese outway was no different.In contemporary China, Liang Ji’s image is still subject to European and American culture, the Chinese cultural tradition and the Marxism, and is drifting among them. It also shows that China is still at the crossroads, and the way forward is unclear. O soul, come back. It is still an open question.
