A Report On The Translation Of Introducing Translation Studies:Theories And Applications(Chapter5-6)

With the development of globalization, cultural exchange between east and west is increasingly frequent, and the role of translation in the cultural exchange becomes more important. This is a project report on an English-Chinese translation. The source text of the project is Introducing Translation Studies:Theories and Applications, written by Jeremy Munday. It systematically introduces the translation schools and theories since the ancient Roman and fully displays the latest academic achievements and research tendency in this field. The translator selects chapter five and chapter six of the book to translate. This translation report aims at discussing difficulties and strategies in translation process of English informative texts through analyzing text types and associating translation practice of Introducing Translation Studies-Theories and Applications.This report contains two parts. The first part is a report of translation practice, which includes introduction, text analysis, translation difficulties and solutions and conclusion. The second part is an appendix, including the source text and the target text of the project.Chapter one covers the background of the project, the purpose of the project, and the significance of the project. Chapter two describes the text analysis, including the text type analysis and language analysis of the source text. And language analysis comprises lexical features and syntactic features of the source text. Chapter three consists of translation difficulties and strategies which are demonstrated by examples. Chapter four presents experience learned from this translation project and the limitations.With the goal of summarizing the translation project, the translator reviews some major difficulties met in the process of translating and gives relevant solutions, hoping it can serve as a reference for the translation of the same kind text.
