This is a report on the translation of Introducing Translation Studies:Theories and Applications by Jeremy Munday, from which chapter one and chapter two are taken as the source text. It is an introductory textbook that gives researchers and translators a comprehensive insight into translation studies, and also a practical coursebook which provides a guideline for undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in translation. Chapter one discusses in detail the concepts of translation studies, brief history of the development of the field and Holmes' theoretical map. Chapter two deals with early attempts at systematic translation theories by Dryden, Dolet and Tytler, the valorization of the foreign by Schleiermacher, and major concepts such as 'word-for-word','sense-for-sense','faithfulness','spirit' and 'truth'.The source text, as a theoretical treatise, is highbrow and abounds with numerous long and complicated sentences, which poses great obstacles to translation. With Reiss's Text Type Theory taken as the theoretical framework, the author of this report adopts certain translation methods classified according to voice, lexical, syntactical and semantic levels with the guidance of translation principles such as accuracy, faithfulness, smoothness and conciseness. Enough examples are given to to explain how to apply translation methods to practice guided by translation principles. The report can be divided into four parts. Part one introduces the source text and the reasons for selecting it as translation practice. Part two elaborates translation principles underpinned by Text Type Theory. Part three analyses the application of translation methods guided by the translation principles. And the last part concludes with experience and limitations concerning translation.
