Group work is a common teaching organization form in language learning and teaching. Compare with other teaching organization form, group work has big advantages on promoting an embracing affective climate, decreasing the students' anxiety level, increasing language practice opportunities and providing more communicative interactions. The extensive application of group work in oral Chinese teaching and learning contribute significantly to the achievement of oral Chinese teaching objective, which aims to improve student's communicative ability. The research and application of group work in Chinese as second language class is still on the early stage compare with group in TESL class. In view of above situation, with class observation and interview, this study divides the application of group work in TESL class into three stages:organizing, implementing and reflecting. Firstly, we clarify what teachers and students should do in every stage. We also investigate the language output and negotiated interaction of student as well as the role of teacher in group work. On organizing stage, teachers should build an overall consideration of the topic, form and task of group work. On implementing level, teachers should provide students with enough language materials, clarify the request of group work and divide students into groups before starting the group work. After students' activity, teachers should organize groups to report their activity outcomes. An impartial evaluation and targeted feedback is necessary for students to consolidate the activity outcomes. Secondly, with questionnaire, we surveyed student's idea about the effectiveness as well as problems in group work. Finally we try to provide some practical suggestions to students and teachers, such as designing group work according to students' language level, inserting information gap in the task of group work, taking full advantage of Chinese language environment to organize group work, etc. Students should use interactive negotiation consciously to acquire comprehensible Input and output.
