| TED conference is a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas. Every year, people with ideas from all over the world will be invited to make a speech for eighteen minutes or less. The organization tries to change the world through ideas and is welcomed around the world. The splendid speech content must be the main reason to win such popularity, and what drives TED Talks to be accessible globally is actually its crowdsourcing translation model.Crowdsourcing translation, simply speaking, is to fulfill the translation assignment through collaboration of the many in a free and volunteer way. As a newly rising translation model, crowdsourcing translation has been used in different fields, however, the academic research on it is quite few. How does this model work? How is the translation quality of Crowdsourcing transaltion? These issues need to be discussed and deserve much attention.Given this situation, this paper conducts a research on the crowdsourcing translation model of the Technology talks on TED Website. The study mainly focuses on the following aspects: firstly, a brief introduction of crowdsourcing translation model and TED Talks; secondly, justification for the feasibility of applying crowdsourcing in TED subtitle translation; then, the analysis of this model in terms of Project Management theory, with suggestions provided; and an evaluation of its quality in the light of Skopos Theory.Devoted to an exploratory study on crowdsourcing translation model, the author of the paper hopes that a practical significance could be provided for the application and improvement of this model. |
