Ever since the Academic Degree Commission of the State Council approved to set MTI program in 2007, gradually altogether 206 universities and colleges have been authorized to offer MTI degree. However, different universities have different curriculums and training plans. Moreover, many MTI graduates are not fully equipped, and cannot meet the demands of translation market.The ultimate goal of the MTI training, is to provide the market with capable graduates who can meet the expectation of clients and well accomplish translation tasks. Therefore, the training model of MTI should be differentiated from that of MA, and focus more on practice.This paper is to find out the effects of background information to translation through empirical measures. In quantitative analysis, this paper compares translation texts of MTI students and those of students majored in certain industry or field, aiming to confirm whether or not in terms of translation tests that better meet market demands and standards, background information are even more necessary than translation theories and techniques.Based on empirical conclusions, this paper analyzes MTI curriculums of key universities in China, and refers to studies conducted by domestic and oversea scholars. With both quantitative results and previous studies at disposal, this paper endeavors to propose some suggestions on reform of MTI curriculums and training plans.
