In recent years, with the rapid development of tourism industry, foreign tourists are increasingly growing, which has brought an unprecedented challenge for Chinese-English translation of tourism texts. As we all know, the quality of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts, to a large extent, has an impact on foreign visitors' understanding of the local culture and also the geographical culture. This not only affects the spread and development of local culture, but also influences foreign tourists' traveling mood. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the quality of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts. This thesis performs the research of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts in Hainan and other places in China based on the Skopos theory, and by means of on-the-spot investigation, data is collected. Then the enlightenment of Skopos theory to tourism text translation is expounded. Therefore, this research article has certain value on the development and progress of this field. As the core of functional translation theory, Skopos theory neglects the traditional "equivalence" requirements, takes the purpose of translation as a first consideration, attaches importance to the realization of expected function of translated text, and has a very effective guiding significance to application texts, especially the Chinese-English translation of tourism texts. Two research methods are employed in this research. First, literature research, the author finds some materials in regards to the development and connotation of Skopos theory, and the definition, type, and function of tourism text. Then the research status of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts in our country is introduced; Second, text analysis, Nord's model for translation-orientation text analysis is employed in the study of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts. There are five chapters altogether in this thesis. The first chapter is introduction, it introduces the motivation, necessity and research questions of this study. The second chapter is literature review, it elaborates the development and connotation of Skopos theory, and also the definition, types, and functions of tourism texts are introduced in detail. At the end of this chapter, the research status of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts in China is introduced. The third chapter is methodology, it introduces Nord's model for translation-oriented text analysis and the qualitative study method employed in this research. Their applications to the study of tourism texts translation are also discussed. The fourth chapter is the key chapter, it analyzes the strengths and weaknesses in the Chinese-English translation of tourism texts in Hainan through Nord's model for translation-oriented text analysis, and strategies for C-E translation of tourism texts are discussed. The fifth chapter is conclusion, the author thinks that while translating tourism texts, translators should attach great importance to the realization of expected function of translated texts, they can also choose proper translation strategies on the basis of comparing and analyzing the purpose and function of source text and translated text. What's more, translators not only need to master the knowledge of target language, but also should clearly understand more about the culture of target language. Only in this way can the quality of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts be guaranteed, and the culture of source language can be spread and developed. It is suggested that the government had better attach great importance to the standard of Chinese-English translation of tourism texts in order to improve China's image and spread Chinese culture all over the world.
