Nord-based Text Analysis Of The Translation Of The Fourth Chapter Of The Language Of Tourism:a Sociolinguistic Perspective

The practice project of this thesis is the Chinese translation of Chapter 4 of the academic monograph The Language of Tourism:A Sociolinguistic Perspective,the remaining chapters of which are the translation by the other team members.This monograph is one of highly academic value worth translating and being introduced to China's tourism circles.Taking the said fourth chapter as its object,the theoretical research of the thesis conducts a Nord-based text analysis of the functions of the source text and the target text for the sake of the translation brief and potential translation difficulties.To solve the linguistic,cultural,pragmatic and text-specific translation problems in the source text,documentary translation and instrumental translation as a combined principle are applied with the flexible use of techniques such as literal translation,annotation,amplification,borrowing,loan translation and foreignization,thus making the target text easy to read and understand while maintaining the exotic ST elements in the TT.As a result,therefore,the reproduction of source-text functions will be achieved to different degrees.
