With continuous and prosperous development of international communication, market demand on translation talents also increases. Since MTI was first established in 2007, it has gradually become one of the most popular majors in China. Up to 2015, 14 colleges and universities in Shandong province have set up MTI; meanwhile, a large number of MTI graduates flood into the job market. It is particularly important to have a deeper understanding of education and employment status of students majoring in translation for improvement of teaching and learning quality of translationincolleges and universities. Hence, the author conducts a survey by choosing 6 colleges and universities in Shandong province which have MTI programs.MTI students and MTI graduates from these 6 colleges and universities are chosen as respondents. The survey aims to reveal the relationship between learning status of MTIstudents on campus and employment status after graduation and provide reference for improvement of MTI training scheme and career plan of MTI major students. The results of he survey suggest that even colleges and universities in Shandong province have shortcomings on MTI curriculum, they are endeavoring to build their unique features during development; a wide gap still exists between learning outcomes of MTI major students and skills of professional translators; few MTI graduates are engaged in full-time translation career, while translation still plays an important role in the jobs of most MTI graduates. The survey results indicate that both universities providing MTI program and MTI students need to make relevant changes in order to make MTI highly recognized and well received.
