With the continuous development of global economy and society, more and more edge youth gained wide attention. The original text is a book of sociology investigation which is edited by Sheri Bastien, a senior researcher of University of Calgary in Canada, and Halla B.Holmarsdottir, a professor of Akershus University College in Norway. And the name of book is Youth'At the Margins',the translator chooses chapter seven and chapter twelve as materials of Chinese translation practice. Depending on Newmark's text typology, sociology research report belongs to the informative text which has its own unique style of language and distinct lexical features. The translator hopes to know the related words and stylistic features of sociology, and to grasp the translation principles and methods through this translation practice.Based on Newmark's theory of communicative translation, the translator stresses the effects on translation of target language rather than the original words or sentences, conveying the original contents faithfully and accurately as well as paying attention to communicative effects. The translator hopes to provide not only meaningful materials for Chinese youth research but also a reference for the youth protection when the related policy is made, and provide some valuable reference for the researchers who are engaging in sociology and pedagogy. The translation report is made up of four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of the translation project, including its backgrounds, goals, significance and structure. The second chapter is the review of translation process, mainly including the pre-translation preparation, author, contents and stylistic features of the original text. The third chapter, the most important part of the report, is the case analysis of translation and translation methods, mainly including the translation theory, three difficulties and such translation methods as literal and free translation, amplification and omission, division and combination, position and negative in the course of translation practice. The last chapter is the conclusion which consists of the lessons and unresolved problems.
