A Report On The C-E Translation Of Boiler Operation Manual

In recent years, China has achieved rapid development in the field of electric power industry, and China's electric equipment has gradually entered the world market. Therefore, more and more attention has been paid to the English translation of electric power so that China's electric power industry is able to gain better cooperation and communication with foreign partners. From Feb.26 th to June.26 th in 2015, the author got an internship in the Translation Center and Translators Association of Nan Chang City and the author's main translation work is bound up in Electric Power. During the practice, the author was lucky to participate in the translation project of Boiler Operation Manual which was given by the China Power Investment Corporation.The report consists of five parts. Firstly, the author makes a brief introduction to the background and requirements of the task, including the origin of the task, the client's profile and the client's requirements. Next comes the description of the whole translation process, and this mainly covers the preparation before translation, the design and implementation of translation plan and the quality control. Then the author lists out the major features of the source text from lexical and syntactical level. The following part is case study and coping strategy. In this part, the author analyses the main translation strategies and skills adopted in the target text through specific examples. The last part of the report contains the experience gained from the translation practice and some suggestions for further practice.The author emphasizes that, besides the solid bilingual ability, a good science and technology translation comes from a perfect combination of sufficient preparation, related professional knowledge, strong psycho-physiological quality and responsibility for translation. The report finally points out that, for the students from MTI program, actual translation practice is an indispensable part apart from the theoretical learning in class, so as to lay the solid foundation and gather experience for the translation work in the future. The author summarizes the experiences during the practice through the report which both as the self-summary and also expected to have some reference for boiler operation manual translation.
