The Translation Stragety For Industrial Manual Under The Guideline Of Text Typology

As a translation strategy thesis for the industrial manual under the guideline of text typology,this thesis discusses the translation strategy for the industrial manual in a case of Satellite Instruction Manual for Use and Maintenance.As the first representative who put forward the text typology,Resis held his standpoint that the linguistic text includes informative text,expressive text and appellative text.Then Newmark further developed the text type theory,he thought that the linguistic text includes symptom text,symbol text and signal text.Based on the text typology,the thesis thinks that the industrial manual is informative text and appellative text.Referring to differet text depend upon different translation strategies,the thesis thinks that there are eight kinds of translation strategies for industrial manuals,including word for word translation,literal translation,faithful translation,semantic translation,communicative translation,idiomatic translation,free translation and domestication.In the aspects of vocabulary translation,it should be given priority to with semantic translation,literal translation,faithful translation and word for word translation as translation strategies.In the aspects of syntactic translation,it should be given priority to with communicative translation,besides free translation,domestication translation and idiomatic translation,because they are more applicable to prose,poetry.In the aspects of discourse translation,it should be given priority to with communicative translation.By analyzing the translation strategies for industrial manual,the author hopes to provide some valuable references for translators.
