Guided by the new developing philosophy of “Innovation, Coordination, Green, Opening-up and Sharing”, Jiangxi Province which is a major traditional agricultural province of China is faced with the new mission to promote innovation and upgrading of its agricultural technology. In meeting the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, it is of considerable importance for this province to enhance its foreign exchanges and cooperation in agricultural technology and thus to promote the transition and upgrading of its agricultural industry. The philosophy leads the province to a new phase that enjoys increasingly frequent and sustained international collaboration in agricultural technology. Accordingly, the translation which is a bridge that serves for bringing in foreign advanced technology and introducing domestic development abroad is endowed with an increasingly important position in this field.Standing out as the first systematic theory in the international interpreting field, the Interpretive Theory proposed by the Paris School is the cornerstone for interpreting pedagogy and practice. It is this theory that holds the real object of interpreting should be the sense of the original speech rather than the linguistic form and interpreters are expected to understand and express the essential meaning based on sense equivalence. Jiangxi-Israel International Agricultural Technology Business Match-making Conference is deemed as a representative event in foreign agricultural technology communication of Jiangxi Province. Based on the interpreting practice at the conference, this report attempts to carry out a study concerning the value of the theoretical guidance of Interpretive Theory for conference interpreting. The whole report can be divided into five chapters. The first chapter strives to give an overall account of the interpreting task, including description of background information, task objectives and language characteristics of source material, as well as the significance of this study from both scientific and practical aspects. The second chapter elaborates on the initial stage of preparation, which is language and theoretical preparation, and then mainly introduces the specific interpreting process, which begins with the opening ceremony, followed closely by presentation from both sides and ends up with the business match-making seminar. The third chapter maps out the theoretical framework of this study. Special regard goes to the concept differentiation and the review of some pivot points in Interpretive Theory. The fourth chapter is devoted to a more concrete presentation that involves with several case studies. Five optimal approaches to be applied to the extraction and expression of sense have been illustrated respectively, namely information integration, logic clarification, message simplification, syntactic restructuring and supplementary explanation. The last chapter, which is offered as a conclusion to this practice report, shares post-task assessment and reflections on the practice and provides some suggestions for future interpreting training such as strengthening interpreters' ability to integrate information, expanding their encyclopedic knowledge and facilitating paraphrasing training. With a look to the future, the author strives to provide some theoretical and practical reference for future interpreting strategy study, interpreting practice and relevant training, in the hope that the guiding role of interpretive theory would be brought into full play and thus better serves for improving the quality of interpretation.
