Chinese-English bilingual learner's dictionary plays an important role in the process of learning Chinese. So far, there are many studies about the aspect of English interpretation of Chinese-English bilingual learner's dictionary, but researches that are based on two kinds of languages' codability are rare. In this paper, the materials are chosen from the semantic field of furniture words in the Collins Chinese Dictionary and Pocket Oxford Chinese Dictionary. This paper will give comprehensive comparison and we try to find out the differences between the Chinese and English furniture semantic field. From the differences, we will discuss the problems of the interpretation of Chinese-English bilingual learner's dictionary. We will analyze these questions and then put forward some suggestions about the interpretation of Chinese-English bilingual learner's dictionary.This paper is divided into five chapters:In chapter one, we briefly review the achievements on comparison of Chinese and English, Chinese and English vocabulary, and dictionary interpretation and bilingual dictionary interpretation, and introduce the object of this study, the theories and methods applied in this study and the value of this research.In chapter two, we give a brief introduction of concept of furniture words, and we make a semantic analysis of furniture words in this study.In chapter three, we contrast the codability of semantic field of furniture of Chinese and English. We choose six semantic fields to analyze from the furniture fields.In chapter four, according to the consequence of the comparisons between semantic field of furniture of Chinese and English, we find that there are three types: completely correspondent, partly correspondent and sememe vacancy. We will make a survey that about the furniture words in the Collins Chinese Dictionary and Pocket Oxford Chinese Dictionary, and then we analyze the interpretation of the two dictionaries based on the codability theory. At last, we will find out some shortcomings of the interpretation of Chinese-English bilingual learner's dictionary.In chapter five, we will make a summary based on this article and state the shortcomings of this article and improve this article for better in the future...
