Their works are popular in Japan and China as well. The another round of Japanese whodunit have surged in China from Keigo higashino’s White Night in 2008. White night, taking the struggle in despair of love and hate between Karasawa Yukiho and Kirihara ryouji as its core, depicts all sorts of complex and cruel behavior of the "Wicked lady" Karasawa Yukiho. The love in despair and the unique complexity of "wicked lady" became the heated topic among the fans of whodunit. And even the fans have discussed the loopholes leaf by the author with logic and reasoning thinking in the Post Bar with the same name. White Night has been the best seller on Amazon, Dangdang online bookstore for a long time. It is said that only Keigo higashino’s book can beat his book. The popularity is evident.Based on the theory of post-modern society and culture, this paper analyzes and discusses the reasons why Keigo higashino’s novels are popular. In the first part, the history of Japan whodunit’s development was summarized, including Edogawa Rampo, the forefather of the Japan whodunit, Seicho Matsumoto.the peak of it, and Keigo higashino,the hottest in post-modern society, to prove that Keigo higashino’s success is due to the historical inheritance of the senior writer; In the second part, through the analyzing the characteristics of the development stage, the reasons why Keigo higashinocould be successful in China were shown. In the last part, by using post-modern theory as the starting point, from the macroscopic angle of culture and society, the main reason of Keigo higashino’s popularity was analyzed:the binary thinking mode was broken, the multiple thinking began to influence people’s cognitive style in the post-modern society. Keigo higashino’s novels represent the digestion of the post-modern social rational tradition, individual freedom and hubbub, the indulgence for their lust and the deep alienation of human nature.This paper has two innovations. On the one hand, it is the first time to be based on the theory of post-modern, jumping out of the narrow perspective of the purely social level in previous works. From the cultural perspective, the popularity of Keigo higashino among Chinese juvenile readers was revealed. At the same time, this paper also reintegrates and reanalyzes the artistic features of Keigo higashino had discoursed less before to achieve a comprehensive and in-depth exposition. On the other hand, it analyzed the characters of Karasawa Yukiho, from the new perspective. Most of the previous papers believed that her childhood misfortunes was the cause of her last change. Although the view was classic view, it was too rigidly and adhere to the text too much. The present paper uses the post-modern theory to explain the motives behind Karasawa Yukiho’s behavior.Needless to say, as the Leader of a new generation of Japanese whodunit, Keigo higashino is of significance in Chinese contemporary field of whodunit. And through the analysis the reason why Japanese whodunit flowered in China also can provide the successful reference to Chinese field of whodunit. |
