China's tourism industry, especially the inbound tourism has experienced unprecedented development since the implementation of reform and opening policy in eighties. More and more foreigners want to have a better understanding of China through travelling in China. So there is a genuine necessity of high quality Chinese-English tourism translation. However, there are numerous problems still existing in the current Chinese-English tourism translation.The task the author chose is a type of practice translation from English to Chinese with about ten thousand words. The original article was excerpted from Records of Mountain Heng, the North Yue. It introduced various aspects of Mountain Heng with words and pictures, including the natural environment, social environment, cultural history, scenic spots, cultural relics, figures and so on. This book fully demonstrates the historical and cultural status of Mountain Heng, and shows its natural and cultural value, which is of practical significance and far-reaching influence to develop the cultural resources and regional economy of Mountain Heng.The practice report introduces the resources and cultural background of Mountain Heng. As it is full of strong cultural characteristics, full of professional term and proper nouns such as place and scenic spot names, to translate it well the author needs to surmount double barriers of language and culture. The author did a textual analysis to the content, language features and writing style of the original and divided it into three layers: lexical level, discourse level and cultural level. According to these translation difficulties, the author applied different translation strategies and skills, on the basis of fully comprehended and flexibly reproduced the original connotation to achieve an effect of faithfulness and smoothness.This report tries to take Records of Mountain Heng, the North Yue as an example, exploring how to apply the knowledge gained through graduate study to translation practice, such as translation methods, skills and strategies. In this way, the author wishes to achieve the goal of deepening the understanding of translation theory, using translation skills to process difficulties and improve translation competence. The author wanted to be able to research and analyze problems in tourism text translation through this practice and eventually drew a conclusion that to be a good translator, one must accumulate theoretical basis and practical experience. Only by constantly learning and improving, fostering a solid foundation of linguistic knowledge, studying the cultural differences between English and Chinese and mastering various of translation skills, can we translate out good works.
