English Translation Report On The Commentary Of Theme Pavilion Of Sino-singapore Tianjin Eco-city Smart Grid

Energy is an essential basis for the development of economic society. Human use energy went through many changes, from the fossil energy such as coal, petroleum and natural gas to clean energy such as hydro-energy, wind energy and solar energy, and each change are accompanied by giant leaps of productivity and important process of human civilization. As the driving force of modernization, energy relates to human well-being. Power demand is an important component of energy demand. And the increasing development of global economy, growth of population and the improvement of electrification level will lead to a rapid growth in power demand. Driven by the growing demand of energy and power, world's power grid is experiencing a leapfrog development, from the traditional to the modern power grid as well as from the isolated city's power grid to trans-regional and transnational interconnected power grids. Global energy internet era begins marked by smart grid. However, there is less research about smart grid in China, and the number of English version is limited as well as in low quality. In addition, the English version of commentary texts is related to scenic spots and museums, not much in theme pavilion of smart grid. Accordingly, this translation report will take The Commentary of Theme Pavilion of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city Smart Grid for study, combining with the relevant translation theory and summarizing the translation process and experience of power energy commentary texts to discuss translation strategies and skills.The translation object, the Theme Pavilion of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Smart Grid, located in the intelligent business hall of the electric power business hall in EcoCity. This business hall is the first intelligent business hall in China, which achieves the “four dimensional integration” diversified services of entities, self-business, online business and mobile phone business. It is also the first smart grid theme pavilion in China. It has received over 10,000 visitors, which shows China's latest research achievement in energy development and the view of energy. For the absence of this kind of text in English, the translation project aims to help foreign peers to learn the operation mode and concept of smart gird as well as the environmental and economic benefits it will be brought to the world. Besides, it provides an example to related professionals to learn about the efforts that China has made in smart grid and global energy internet. It is also a reference for the professionals in the field of electric power and the translators who study the commentary text.In the translation process of this project, the author combined the Text Analysis Theory of Christiane Nord with Text Type Theory to analyze the source text. Through the analysis of source text, the author could summarize the feature about the translation of smart grid commentary and the intratextual and extratextual factors which may affect the translation. Meanwhile, directing at the incomplete source text, the author used some translation methods such as addition and reduction in the process of translation and made a comprehensive description of the whole translation project by summarizing the translation skills. Furthermore, the source text contains lots of terminology of electric power, so the translator referenced books and discussed with professionals in order to convey accurate information and fluent words.
