A Report On The E-C Translation Of Scientific Text Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

Today,with the rapid development of science and technology,EST texts are important approaches for people to understand and learn the latest science and technology in the world.The translation of EST texts has become more and more important.However,most common translation theories are usually applied to literary translation.Therefore,how to choose the translation theory which is of guiding significance to the translation practice of EST texts is drawing more and more attention.Skopos theory was founded by German translation theorists Vermeer and Reiss in the 1970s.Its theoretical core is skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.Skopos rule is the first principle in translation,which emphasizes the purpose of the translation;coherence rule requires the readability of the translation;and fidelity rule requires the faithfulness of the translation to the source text.The skopos theory,as the most important theory in the functionalist translation theories,plays an important role in guiding the translation practice of EST texts.This report chooses two scientific papers on the Cloud Computing Applications for Smart Grid as the source texts,and carries out translation practice under the guidance of skopos theory.The first chapter of the report briefly introduces the background and significance of this translation practice task.Chapter 2 analyses the source texts,and describes in detail the pre-translation preparations,the process of translation and the post-translation proofreading.Chapter 3 makes a brief introduction to the skopos theory which is the theoretical basis of this practice report,and discusses the three rules of skopos theory.Chapter 4 deals expounds the problems in the process of translation,and carries out case analysis by using the translation methods under the guidance of skopos theory.In the process of translating professional vocabulary and acronyms,the author follows the fidelity rule to ensure the quality of translation.In terms of the translation of nominalization structure,passive voice and long and difficult sentences,the author follows the coherence rule,thus ensuring that target language recipients can accurately understand the target text in their native language communication environment.In addition,when confronted with different translation problems,the author takes the skopos rule as the highest standard and chooses different translation methods to achieve the communicative purpose of translation.Chapter 5 summarizes the research finding s and gains in this translation practice,as well as the limitations and suggestions for further research.This practice report applies the skopos theory to the translation of scientific texts,during which the author pays attention to the readability of the target text and the communicative purpose function of the target text in the cultural environment of the target language,thus providing theoretical guidance for promoting the development of translation practice of EST texts.
