A Translation Report On Electrical Safety Regulation Of Huadian Corporation

With the further deepening of Chinese opening up to the world, economic activities with other countries are increasing and many foreign related enterprises are emerging. Therefore, some documents like the daily management system or the safety operation rules in company have become the most popular type in the current translation industry. At present, this type of text is often of diversity. And the major translation task is usually small. However, the translation quality is directly related to the formulation of company daily management system, the efficient usage of new technology and the safety of staff. Electrical industry is the basis of national economy and the most important part in social development. However, electrical safety accidents have occurred frequently in recent years. The reasons lie in less attention to electrical safety, less safety consciousness, imperfect electrical safety system and lack of communication with the foreign advanced electrical safety system. As a result, the author of this report chose Electrical Safety Regulation issued by China Huadian Corporation as the source text in order to serve as a reference to the electrical English translation in the future and made it more scientific and practical through learning from the advanced theory of foreign electrical safety to help the drawing-up of current safety guidelines in electrical industry.The source text of this project belongs to text type of regulation stated by clauses. Beause it belongs to the electrical English range and is written for the electrical readers to avoid casualty accident, therefore it owns some features: concise and easy to understand, clear, coercive and more terminologies. Therefore, the translator shall ensure a faithful translation, retain the original sentence types. In addition, the translator shall ensure the its coerciveness with the help of passive voice and modal verbs and the veracity of terminologies by means of electrical networking tools.In the process of translation, the author makes analysis of the source text and summarizes some characteristics of electrical safety regulation text on the basis of Nida's functional equivalence theory and Nod's text analysis theory. At the same time, the author employs some translation strategies to solve the related problems occurring in translation. Besides, the author selects some examples to sum up techniques and strategies used to solve specific translation problems from aspects as professional terms, sentences without subjects, long and complicated sentences, passive voice and normalization phrase. Finally, the author approves that the functional theory is beneficial to translation and will provide of guiding value for the future translation practice and translation teaching.
