A Translation Report On HVDC Cable Insulation

The “Belt and Road” is a very important national top-level strategy in China.It is the abbreviation of “Silk Road Economic Belt” and “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”.With the in-depth implementation of the Belt and Road Policy,the cooperation between China and the countries referred has also become increasingly closer.As one of the priorities of the Belt and Road cooperation,facilities linking is the key to the infrastructure of neighboring countries.The application of i HVDC cable insulation is widely used in subways,power stations,high-speed rails,and natural gas transportation.The insulation material of HVDC cables plays an essential role in the infrastructure.The HV cables are usually insulated with a highmolecular polymer insulation material,which is divided into different types according to different processing technologies and different materials,such as impregnated paper-insulated cables.Oil-filled cables,etc.There are many translation materials in the direction of electrical insulation,but there are relatively few translation studies in that field.Most of the relevant articles that can be searched at present are in the field of electrical insulation rather than their translation study.The cable insulation material is a branch of electrical engineering and belongs to the catalogue of English for science and technology.Translation materials of this type can help absorb foreign technological innovation and breakthroughs.This paper mainly studies the textual features of English for science and technology in the field of HVDC cable insulation and the translation strategies and techniques needed within the translation process.The task was commissioned by World Cable Co.,Ltd.Of Hei Longjiang Provinceto translate Electrical Characterization of Extruded DC Cable Insulation and Polymeric Insulation Materials for HVDC Cables Development in the sci-tech periodicals for the company's internal staff training and technical reserves.The translation of this project can,to a certain extent,promote the translation of English texts for electrical,especially electrical insulation.And It would also supply the reference materials for electrical and cable insulation in translation studies.In the long run,this project is also conducive to promoting practitioners in the electrical field to understand and absorb advanced foreign knowledge,as well as promoting domestic scientific and technological development,integrating with the international community,and making every effort to transform “Made in China” into “Created in China”.There are two major challenges in this project.One is the inherent problem of translation texts in the field of science and technology,such as the correspondence of terms,the solution of long sentences,and the combing of logical relationships;the second is the stylistic problem unique to the text of the project,such as the translation of the introduction before formulas,etc.In response to these two difficulties,I used Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory and Nord's text analysis theory to analyze the texts,and studied the lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,textual equivalence,etc.of English translation in electrical English for science and technology.,and analysis of the intratextual and extratextual factors that affect the translation of the texts.I also summarized the characteristics of texts,structures,vocabulary,and terminology of electrical English.The effect of functional equivalence theory and text analysis theory has been proved in the field of scientific English translation,especially in electrical English translation.This paper would also be a reference for the translation work in the field of cable insulation in the future.
