A Translation Report On Chapter 6 Of Policing: Development & Contemporary Practice

This is a report concerning the English-Chinese translation of long sentences in Chapter 6 of Policing: Development & Contemporary Practice. The source text is selected from the legal English works written by Peter Joyce who is a famous legal scholar in contemporary Britain and a research scholar of policing theory and practice. The author of the report finds that there are a great number of long sentences with the complicated grammatical structures, causing difficulties in translation. Moreover, the long sentence is the common syntactic form in politics, philosophy and other subjects such as the legal English and the business English. It is most frequently used in the legal English and also one of the common problems in translating from English to Chinese.
