With the rapid development of Kaifeng's economy, culture and society in recent years, an increasing number of people are paying more and more attention to this city, the capital of eight ancient dynasties. In order to summarize achievements of the year 2014 and set objectives of the year 2015, the Municipal Party Committee Office of Kaifeng issued A Brief Introduction to Kaifeng City(2015) to demonstrate undertakings of all aspects of the city. It covers 40,000 words and consists of nine parts, including the survey, the construction of economy, politics, culture, society, ecological civilization, the Party, the districts and counties, and the objectives of development. The first four parts were translated.The translator hopes to help English-speaking visitors have a better idea of Kaifeng's development and to promote cultural communication and integration. Following the guidance of the Skopos theory, the translator studied the translation of political texts and expository writings with Chinese characteristics.In this report, the translator discussed the application of translation skills, like diction, conversion and addition, in the translation of a city's introduction with the help of the Skopos theory, compared the similarities and differences between informative and expressive texts' translating, and summarized some translation methods of Chinese historical expressions. To translate such kind of text, one should enrich his knowledge, flexibly apply translation skills, and convince and attract the readers under the rules of Skopos, coherence and fidelity.
