This translation report derives from Part 1 of the novel The Girl on the Train, by Paula Hawkins. This novel tells an unemployed, divorced and bibulous girl named Rechel, who is in search of a mysterious disappearance of the suspect, and then she carries on a series of investigations. Thus it uncovers the fact of British society and human nature. The purpose of this translation is to let Chinese readers get a better understanding of western culture, western literature and the psychological activities of descriptive ploy. Meanwhile, the book reveals profound social problems and philosophical summaries. To some extent we can say it causes people pay to attention to life and also enhance people's literary attainments.This translation report consists of four parts. The first part is an introduction to the translation task, which includes the source of the task, an introduction to the novel and the significance of this report. The second part is the translation process that covers the preparations, problems and strategies in the process of translation. The third part focuses on case analysis. Combining translation strategies with specific examples, this part analyzes the difficulties encountered during the translation process, which is the main part of this report. The fourth part summarizes the experiences and lessons gained by the translator, which also includes cognition on the literary translation and contrast between English and Chinese.Through this translation practice, the translator has deeply realized that translation is no easy job. Translation is not merely a pure language interaction, it also involves a variety of non-linguistic factors. Therefore, a qualified translator should not only have solid bilingual foundations but also possesses corresponding qualities. Thus deepen the understanding of cultural differences. Only in this way can a translator be qualified in transforming between two languages.
