Translation Techniques For C-E Long Sentence In Scientific And Technical Article

In recent years, China has made some achievements in science and technology.However, some Chinese advanced technology may be unknown in other countries because of the language barrier. So, it is very necessary to translate scientific and technical articles timely and accurately.This project is based on “Investigation of High Voltage Resistance BST Thin Film Varactors” English version, mainly analyzing the difficulty in translation of Chinese long sentence and the corresponding translation techniques through comparative analysis on the syntactic features between Chinese and English according to the guidance of skopos theory.As it is known that long sentences are very common in scientific and technical article and they are huge challenges for translators. Therefore, the translation of long sentences in the project is the key factor to influence the translation quality.This translation project report falls into four chapters. Chapter one is the description of the translation project. Chapter two is about the Chinese & English syntactic features and skopos theory. Chapter three is the analysis of long sentence in the translation project and the corresponding translation techniques. Chapter four is the summary of the translation project. Based on the different syntactic features in Chinese and English as well as reading habit of target readers, the translator applies the translation techniques successfully into the translation of Chinese long sentence in the guidance of skopos theory. The translation techniques are division, conversion and inversion. This report aims to analyze the problems and challenges in the translation project in perspective of the different long syntactic features between Chinese and English, and then summarize some corresponding translation techniques to solve these problems.
