A Report On The Translation Of Science And Technology Under PACTE Strategic Sub-Competence

As a huge part of translation market, technical translation is in great demand in China. But translators, challenged by expertise knowledge, are often trapped in a dilemma of producing professional work of high quality.The thesis is primarily a C-E translation practice report of engineering on the Script of Environment Risk and Impact Analysis as an example. On the basis of the PACTE Strategic Sub-competence from Spain, this report is to demonstrate the process of translation, and discuss the techniques and difficulties that come with it. In essence, the Strategic Sub-competence, as the core of the PACTE Translation Competence, means translator can skillfully apply strategies or techniques to address corresponding issues in a translation project. It can be called an organic combination of strategies, techniques and methods, comprising preparing strategies before translation, translation strategies in translation and assessment strategies after translation. Through analysis, this report focuses on translation strategies in the process of translation. It includes four chapters: Chapter One gives an introduction of translation task; Chapter Two describes the translation process; Chapter Three discusses the difficulties of the translation project, involving the use of numerous professional terms, nouns, long sentences, non-subject sentences, etc. and proposes translation strategies needed to ensure correct, professional and idiomatic English of science and technology; Chapter Four summarizes the translation practice. This report is expected to arouse the attention to such a competence from translation teaching so as to raise professional translation competence and improve the translation quality.
