The original text comes from author's daily translation practice. As one of the five-star hotels in Changsha, Xiandai Gloria grand supply new experiences for its customers through the customer-oriented service and high-end infrastructure of the hotel.This is a handbook particularly for all kinds of crises or potential crises in the hotel. It gives us many detailed measures and treatments of handing those crises. It 's a practical style project translation. The author holds that this task is a representative of practical style project. With the growth of the economic strength of China, there are numerous ways of exchanges between China and foreign countries. People from different countries exchange their advanced management technology in the fields of culture, economy and hotel management. This Crisis Management has about twenty thousand words. The language is very concise, simple and convenient for facilitate managers and employees to follow.Because of regional and cultural differences, it's very different in the language structure and form in English and Chinese. As is known to all, those two languages representing different cultures and belong to different language families.Therefore, during the process of translation, in order to make the translation faithful to the original in both style and meaning, the translator needs to do some appropriate adjustments and changes according to the original text. In numerous translation evaluation criteria, Nida's functional equivalence theory is regarded as one of the most instructive one. Functional equivalence theory emphasizes the same response of the target readers with the response of the original readers,and expressing the original text with the closest receptor language. The Crisis Management Handbook belongs to a practical writing and the translator combined Nida's functional equivalence theory as the guidance to do the translationpractice.The translation report of Crisis Management Handbook can be totally divided into five parts.First of all,the author gives a brief introduction of the whole project,then draws forth Eugene A.Nida's functional equivalence theory, and explains it is the guidance of the whole translation project. The processes of translation are introduced in the third part, including the stages of translation and preparation. The author summarizes the translation methods and techniques by analyzing some cases, and illustrates how to adopt different translation skills to deal with difficulties in the translation process, under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.Lastly,the author sums up the experience in the translation project. The author gained valuable lessons in the process, especially when there are cultural background differences in language translation processing. All of the experiences raising the author's awareness of the important guiding role of functional equivalence theory and this part is a comprehensive conclusion of the thesis.This project has theoretical and practical significance. First of all,the translator's practice ability was improved during the process. For clients, through reading the translation, the manager got a better understanding of how to do a good job in the hotel security maintenance,thus the hotel can provide comprehensive security services for guests in the hotel. This can not only promote the hotel's brand effect, also can enhance competitiveness in the industry. What's more,the translation project provides enlightenment for practical style translation under functional equivalence theory guidance.This helps to enhance the consciousness of combining theory and practice together.
