At present, it is quite necessary to research on this topic: It is conducive to make up for the lack ofBuddhist Studies which the academic circles done in Hainan. It is conducive to fully explore the historical and cultural resources of Buddhism in Hainan Island, in order to provide services for the construction of Hainan international tourism island. It is conducive to expanding the scope of the history and culture study of Hainan Island, Enrich its cultural content, providing services for the cultural construction of Hainan. It is conducive to strengthening the exchange of Buddhist culture with Southeast Asian countries and so on.In the late of Han Dynasty, Buddhism began to spread to the Central Plains of china, after the development of Wei, Jin, the southern and Northern Dynasties, to the Sui and Tang Dynasty, its go for heyday, and constitute many Buddhist sects with Chinese characteristics.Buddhist ideas and concepts have gradually become a part of Chinese traditional culture, and penetrate into all aspects of social life. According to the existing historical records, it is in the Tang Dynasty that Buddhism began to spread into Hainan Island. After the development of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty, It began to have a certain status in the religious belief of Hainan. This paper will comprehensively explore the spread of ancient(from the Tang Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty) Buddhism in Hainan Island, and its characteristics in the dissemination process and the impact on the Hainan society.In the reign of Wu Zetian, ordered the national states set up Buddhist temple generally, the result of Hainan is the establishment of DaYun temple in the south of Hainan Island called Zhen, which marks the beginning of the spread of Buddhism. During the Tang Dynasty in KaiYuan, there is a temple called KaiYuan, which is set up in the north of Hainan's Ya state. in the seven years of TianBao(748), Master Jian Zhen is drifting to the southern tip of Hainan Island, called state of Zhen,the Ningyuan Estuary. He was stay here for more than two years to spread the Buddhism of Lv zong, which further promote the spread and development of Buddhist culture in Hainan area. However, affected by the lost of Hainan Local Chronicles before Ming Dynasty, We cannot see the whole picture of the spread and development of Buddhism in Hainan in the Tang Dynasty. In Song and Yuan Dynasties, the development of Buddhism is faster, the dissemination is wider and appear in many counties, the number of Buddhist buildings has increased significantly. But many of them are built by local people spontaneously and less government participation. During Ming and the early Qing Dynasty, Hainan Island Buddhist development speed is very fast, the number of Buddhist building has a sharp increase. And begin to appear in each county. The scope of communication is wider and wider. In addition, the support of government is also strengthened, and local people began to combination, which promote its further development. In the late of Qing Dynasty, the development of Buddhism in Hainan is decline gradually, due to the influence of political factors.In ancient times, the spread of Buddhism in Hainan is different from the continent, due to its Remote location and the effect of immigration Island. Mainly manifested as: Development degree is low, Believers and the famous monk is less, the distribution of Buddhist buildings are uneven, the attention that the government pay is increased gradually, etc. in addition, The influence of Buddhism on the society of Hainan is mainly Performance as: rich Hainan religious culture and architectural landscape, as well as the idea and spirit of Hainan residents, and traditional folk festivals.
