Wandering Malformation Between Commerce And Art-Study On Chinese Vulgarization Phenomenon In Contemporary Art

Because of its special historical background,development,expression and affective characteristics,graffiti,with its special relationship with public space,aroused great controversy and dispute.People have divided views about this kind of art,so graffiti,unlike the other forms of art,couldn ' t become a mainstream art that may develop into a kind of artistic culture;instead,it became a kind of marginal art.As the space that people rely on,public space serves people and provides artists with “personal exoression”of their feelings.Graffiti is an “unrestricted” art that can not controlled by government or society.This paper explores and analyzes the relationship between graffiti and public space in its four chapters.The first chapter relates the origin,location choice and change,and discusses how different cultural trends and art have influenced graffiti.As time went by,graffiti was done in even wider space by graffiti artists and the forms of graffiti also became increasingly varied.Chapter two defines public space and public art and discusses their importance and the connection between them.By studying the different representation of public art in public space,we compare its influence on common people with the relationship between graffiti and public space.Chapter three makes a research on how graffiti artists destruct and reconstruct the public space.Beginning from the individual case,this chapter reflects on the influence of graffiti on public space and thoroughly analyzes the development of graffiti and problems in Chinese modern art by studying the artists and their works.Chapter four relates the commercialization of graffiti,the acceptance and application of graffiti by common people.It argues the compatibility between graffiti and space from the viewpoint of psychology and how graffiti works and graffiti-concerned products influence and guide the common people.The last part makes a conclusion of this paper by analysing the practical implication of graffiti in Chinese modern art and highlights the theme of the whole paper.It compares graffiti with other forms of art in public space and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of them.Beased on the research of development and influence of fraffiti culture,the paper illustrates the perfomance,merits and shortcomings of graffiti.By studying fraffiti works,it reveals the exposition need and aesthetic need hidden behind the phenomenon during the development of graffiti,and the interrelated impact between graffiti works andpublic space.Since graffiti,previously as marginalized art,has gradually grew into a form of art that is commonly aceepeted and appreciated,the research of graffiti may help artists to work twith a sober mind and attitude in art making.What's more,the combination with commercial culture is of great significance to the development of graffiti and public art.
