This translation mission comes from Tomorrowland: Our Journey from Science Fiction to Science Fact by American author Steven Kotler. The translation report deals with the introduction part and the first two sections of Chapter 1 of this book.In the part of introduction, the author, through telling stories, shows us the changes brought out by technology. Besides, he digs out the real technologies initiated by science fictions. In Bionic Man, the author adopts flashback to record the historical moment when Rozelle and Herr got hurt and reborn by bionic technology. In The Science of Mind Uploading, Mr. Kotler discusses recording mind into computer by silicon, which literally brings people eternal lives. The principle of “truthfulness, expressiveness and elegance” by Yan Fu and “equivalence theory” by Nida dominate the whole process of this translation, which guarantee accuracy and truthfulness of the translation. Besides, in consideration of the author's unique writing style and feature, the translator makes efforts to express the author's idea with equivalent words to ensure the similar feeling of the target readers. Thus, the translator employs kinds of translation methods. This thesis consists of three parts, namely the original text, the translation text and translation report. The translation report is made up of the following sections: The first section is translation description, including translation source, book introduction and significance of this translation project. The second section deals with translation process, including pre-translation preparation, such as searching materials, theories and revision. The third section is about cases analysis. With the guidance of Yan Fu's theory and “equivalence theory”, combining with non-literary translation characters, the translator selects typical cases and conducts detailed analysis. Those cases analyses cover sentence transformation, word order adjustment, literal and free translation, etc. The last section talks about translation summary. Translation is nothing more than continuous accumulation and modification. So after finishing translating, the translator makes translation summary and reflection. This translation practice is one of the most important practices in MTI learning, which is both an examination of learning results, and a cornerstone for later translation study.
