A Report On Interpreting For Wine Exhibitors Of Georgia Of The 15^th Western China International Fair

With the acceleration of economic globalization and the deepening of China's opening up to the world, China has undertaken increasingly international business conventions and exhibitions. As an emerging industry, the main purpose of convention and exhibition industry is to promote economic communication and trade development between countries. Thanks to the Western Development Strategy, Chengdu has become one of the most prosperous regions in China's exhibition industry. As a result, the vigorous development of exhibition economy has satisfied the great demand for exhibition professionals, especially the translators. In order to improve the quality of exhibition interpreting, this paper intends to analyze the interpreting cases and puts forward some practical techniques for exhibition interpreting.This paper consists of four parts. The first part introduces the basic information and current situation of exhibition interpreting. The second part gives details of the interpreting project, including the introduction to the wine exhibitors of Georgia and the purpose of the project. The third part is the main part of this paper, where the author firstly reviews the preparatory work before interpreting, then the author illustrates the problems the author encountered during the interpreting process, including redundancy of target language, understanding difficulties of clients, incoherence of sentences, inappropriate tone and vocabulary shortage. Then the author proposes some practical interpreting techniques such as omission, amplification, connection, adjustment and replacement. In the last part of this paper, the author summarizes the problems and puts forward solutions for improvements, such as making full preparation before interpreting, improving the sensitivity to different accents, cultivating a calm and peaceful mind when interpreting, and trying to accumulate a variety of knowledge of different areas and etc. The author hopes that this paper can provide some effective and practical guidance to exhibition interpreting. However, due to the limitation of abundant sources, there are still many areas which need the author to explore.
