A Report On The Translation Of The Sociolinguistics Of Language(Chapter 5)

This is an English-Chinese translation report based on Chapter 5 of the book: The Sociolinguistics of Language,written by Ralph Fasold.There is not any translated version of the source text till now,after searching on CNKI,Baidu,Google and other resources from the Internet.This chapter discusses how to solve the conflicts among semantic,pragmatics and sentence structures from the perspective of social linguistics.It aims to popularize linguistic knowledge and promote the development of language study.This is a piece of academic writing which belongs to a typical informative text.So the language of the translation should be accurate,concise and fluent.Meanwhile,according to the Skopotheorie,in order to pursue a readable translation,some kinds of translation skills such as adding notes,conversion,extension of meaning and so on are applied to solve the problems in the translation process.Through this translation,the author has a further understanding of the academic translation and practices her translation skills.
