The ancient Chinese dictionary(the dictionary for short,is a landmark reference book for ancientChinese. It is an Authority ancient Chinese dictionary that using the modern linguistics view anddictionaries learning method, compiled by Wangli, Jiang shaoyu and so on after the founding of NewChina.Once published, the dictionary was well received and praised by readers. Because its scientificparaphrase, accurate phonetic notation and precise model sentence are very accord with the needs of theancient Chinese learners. So that it became the necessary reference book for studying ancient Chinese. Atpresent, the dictionary has been published four times, just the edition of1979,1993,1998and2005. Amongthem, the edition of1993was awarded the first prize at the first National Book Awards of China. At the moment, many domestic language workers are paying close attention to the dictionary (version4). Some of them reviewed the characteristics and value of the dictionary, some directly quoted theachievement of the dictionary, many others put forward a little oppugn in allusion to paraphrases, documentary evidence, etc. With the outstanding achievements, we find the dictionary (version4) is not perfect. For the reason ofvarious lexical items, restricted compilation system, restricted revise time and weighty typesetting work, the dictionary (version4) inevitably exists some mistakes in the aspects of documentary evidence andparaphrases. On the basis of predecessors’ achievements, the author adequately make use of the database andlibrary collect books, research the lexical items of the dictionary(A—N).Then conclude the followingproblems: First, documentary evidence (behindhand example illustration, impertinent sequencing, inaccurate quotation, etc);Second, paraphrases (inappropriate paraphrases, missing paraphrases, the laterparaphrases that wrong diagnosis, etc);Third, comprehensive problem; Finally, otherproblem(pronunciation, system, etc). The author in accordance with the principle of “well documented, hypostatic”, detail by detail correctthe lexical items of the dictionary(A—N), crank out material card, and clear up redesigned opinioncombined with the classics. Then ticked them off in the meaning of “consult and query”, So as tocontribute my slender efforts to the perfection of the dictionary.
