The development of information globalization boosts the increasing communications between China and other countries in the world. News is important for information transmission and provides all kinds of messages. And translation is the bridge for information communication between China and the outside world. The Economist, as a world famous English magazine, has become a good choice for many Chinese to know global news. While journalistic English poses a hinder for the common readership at home due to its timeliness and the limitation of layouts. Thus, the translation of The Economist is of great significance.The author selects some political, economic and cultural news from The Economist as translation materials. First of all, this report introduces the background and the whole process of this translation practice and points out the translation purpose. In addition, the author gives a brief introduction to The Economist and the main ideas and language styles of these source texts and presents the research status of news translation and some relevant theories and principles as well. Then, the author points out the obstacles in translation, namely, the translation of headlines, proper words and long and complex sentences. By combining theories and examples, the author put forward methods and strategies to solve these problems. At last, the report makes a comparison among three different categories of news, trying to find out their diversities. The author hopes to summarize some skills for news translation through this experience so as to enhance her translation ability and contribute to the development of China's news translation.
