This report is based on the translation of the first four chapters of A Guide for Policymakers and Statistics Organizations in the Pacific, which is from the official website of International Labour Organization and is an international report. According to the famous translator Newmark's classification of text type, the texts, such as reports, narrate some concepts or help readers to have a better understanding of a certain field belonging to the informative text. Also, Newmark advocates using communicative translation theory to deal with the informative text. Therefore, based on the project background, text features, and the communicative translation theory, the author analyses the difficulties of translation and introduces solutions to them. This report first elaborates the project background, structure, and translation process, and then introduces the Newmark's theory about informative text. The Guide elaborates the immigration situation, issues and solutions in the Pacific based on a large amount of data and adopts a plain tongue. Therefore, the Guide belongs to the informative text. Based on this theory, the author analyses the translation difficulties on the lexical level and syntactic level, which are the frequent use of terminologies related to social science, abbreviations, polysemants, and long sentences. Due to the fact that the author lacks professional knowledge and skilful translation techniques, the author determines solutions with the guidance of Newmark's communicative theory. On the lexical level, the author adopts the translation based on convention, consulting the parallel texts, and with the context. From the aspect of the syntactical level, the author uses the translation methods of division, sequencing, and inversion. Last but not least, the author summarizes the whole paper and also describes what she has gained during the process of finishing the paper.
