Analysis of the text is crucial for translators to select appropriate strategies in accordance with the text features.Peter Newmark,the well-known British translation theorist,has proposed the theory of text typology and classified texts into three categories:expressive texts,informative texts and vocative texts.Based on the three kinds of texts,Newmark has also put forward semantic translation and communicative translation.He has suggested that semantic translation can be applied to expressive texts,and informative texts and expressive texts mainly adopt communicative translation.Thus,this thesis is to analyze the rationality and appropriateness of applying communicative translation to the informative text materials in the translation practice of Chapter 7,8,and 9 of Technical Communication.On the basis of the personal translation practice,the translation report is generated through the analysis and conclusion of the translation process.The thesis is composed of six chapters.Chapter 1 states the necessity of introducing and translating Tecehnical Communication to China.In addition,it claims the scientificity of adopting communieative translation into the practice as the main strategy.Chapter 2 gives an introduction to the author of the source text,the book and the translation procedures.Chapter 3 reviews Newmark's text typology and communicative translation.Chapter 4 is a case study in the light of communicative translation from four perspectives,namely,identification of word meaning,tenninology interpretation,logical relationship and expression.Chapter 5 is a reflection on the problems occurred in the translation process.Chapter 6 concludes that when translating the informative texts,especially textbooks,translators should follow the principles of communicative translation and communicate with the target audience accurately,delivering messages with authentic language and leave readers no elusive expressions.
