A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Report Of Government Work 2015

Report of Government Work belongs to political text, which involves many major aspects, including the policies, principles, and interests of government. So it appears to be of great political features. As a kind of official document of the People's Republic of China, its structure often can be divided into three parts:a review of government work in the previous year, the work plan of the next year to come, and the construction of government in various aspects. The content is comprehensive, objective, and creative. Unique stylistic features can be found in Report of Government Work:to reflect the social development and culture of China, there are large quantities of words with Chinese characters; the sentences are long and the sentence patterns are almost the same, without many connectives; imperative structures and sentences with slogans are used; and there is no clear logical relationship between sentences.This report, based on the translation project of Report of Government Work 2015 combined with the study of the previous reports, aims to analyze the translation process and summarize the general law of translating political texts. By comparing the author's version with the official version, the report aims to summarize the features of such texts and provide translation strategies for similar texts. In terms of lexicology, the translation of considerable abbreviations and culture-loaded expressions should be handled with the strategy of literal translation along with annotation. The strategy of free translation should be employed on the translation of four-character structures and political terms. Synonym alternation is utilized for words appearing in high frequency. When it comes to the translation of long and difficult sentences, the strategies of punctuating, recompounding of word order and addition and deletion are available for choices.
